Kate 101

My name is Kate and I live in Kitchener, a city in Southwestern Ontario.  This makes me Canadian, and sometimes this comes across in my writing, eh.

The love of my life is my nephew, Carter, born in March of last year.

I truly believe that the Blue Jays WILL once again make it to the playoffs… just not this year or next.

I like dressing up occasionally but am most comfortable in my jammies.

I was a nanny to a little boy with Autism for a year and a half (whom I love like he’s my own), and I can sing pretty much every Sesame Street song ever written. And I’m proud of it. And I MAY have two or three Sesame Street DVDs that I watch occasionally on my own.

Barney Stinson is my hero. Actually, Neil Patrick Harris in any role (or as himself) will do.

I was born in Montreal, went to high school in Kitchener, went back to Montreal to go to university, and returned to Ontario last April. I think of both places equally as home. I go to Montreal often to visit friends and the family of the little guy I used to take care of.

I’ve been told I’m “a curious contradiction” – I seem innocent and sweet at first, but I have an unexpected other side that may catch you off guard. I can drink whiskey and drop f-bombs when appropriate but can also turn on the charm and elegance when it’s needed.

I work for a non-profit organization that recruits volunteers for other non-profits. I’m currently working on three fairly big projects and I love what I do, even though it can be time consuming. I’d like to think I could one day move to the corporate side of things, but my heart is really in non-profit and I’ll probably stay here. I also sit on the board of directors of a local food bank, and enjoy it very much.

I just asked my friend Matt what makes me awesome, and his answer was: “sweet, smart, sassy, honest, kind, caring, and awesome screen pointing skills.” That last part refers to a promotional video I’m in for work, where I point at my computer screen. I EXCEL AT IT.

I don’t drink coffee, but I do drink a Diet Pepsi most mornings on my way to work.

I vote Liberal. And I don’t buy into the theory that politics shouldn’t be discussed on the first date. Politics should always be discussed.

I just learned to like white wine, and I feel super classy whenever I drink it.

I studied Applied Human Sciences, and have a hard time explaining it to anyone who asks exactly what it is. I always say it’s kind of a cross between psychology and sociology, and it’s a lot about observing people’s behaviour and understanding why they act the way they do, especially in relation to others. One time a cab driver asked me what I studied, and when I told him he said, “oh, so it’s kind of like the collective psychology of a group,” and I couldn’t believe how easy he’d made it sound. I’ve used his description ever since.

I’d like to be with someone who believes that flaws are just part of what make someone who they are. Love me because of my imperfections, not despite them.

(That last bit is from my online dating profile.  I just thought I’d throw it in there for good measure.)

Life is supposed to be a bit nuts… otherwise it would just be a whole bunch of Thursdays in a row.
